SUMMARY:Webinar - Low Load Efficient Heat Pump Research
DESCRIPTION:Modeling and lab testing revealed that some heat pumps work significantly better under part-load (low-load) conditions\, resulting in significant annual energy savings with little to no differentiation in retail price. NEEA contracted with Cadeo Group and Optimized Thermal Systems to better understand why and what equipment hardware or design changes are needed to achieve top quartile low-load efficiency. The project involved two parts: 1) explore why. If the NEEP-published minimum capacity COP at 47 degrees is a good indicator of low-load efficiency\, why isn’t this value reflected in the federal test procedure for HSPF2 or SEER2? And 2) the second part was to conduct a detailed virtual “paper” tear-down of many different heat pump systems to determine the source of low-load efficiency and what\, if any\, hard costs can be associated with such systems. \nSector: Emerging Technologies / General \n\nType: Product Council\nDate: April 02\, 2024\nTime: 10:30 AM – 12:00 PM\nAddress: Online Only\nAddress 2: Online Only\nIntended Audience: Board Members\, Committee Members\, Utility Members\nContact Info: productcouncil@neea.org\nLinks:\n\nRegistration Link\n\n\n\n

SUMMARY:Webinar - Optimizing Residential Forced-Air HVAC Systems: Efficiency\, Comfort and Low Loss Duct Systems
DESCRIPTION:Optimizing Residential Forced-Air HVAC Systems: Efficiency\, Comfort and Low Loss Duct Systems\nImproved design\, installation and commissioning practices lead to a dramatic improvement in building energy consumption\, indoor air quality\, and comfort. There are six performance factors that can be applied to HVAC design\, installation and/or commissioning. In the Optimizing Residential Forced-Air series\, we will review how each factor can be specified at design\, implemented during installation\, and tested/adjusted during commissioning. We will also look at how we can redesign our approach to high performance HVAC systems to support CA climate goals\, help manage the peak electrical load on the grid as well as the owners operating cost under the time-of-use billing structure. \nThe Optimizing Residential Forced-Air series is informed through commissioned systems\, where real examples from completed projects are used to support class content. We have designed\, built\, and commissioned both retrofit and new construction projects that exemplify the concepts covered in class. Course content will include design examples\, photos installations\, and test results from commissioning. \nThe HVAC equipment\, materials and knowledge required to dramatically improve the performance of HVAC systems is readily available. This class will assist the designer\, installer\, and rater in their efforts to improve the HVAC systems we build. \n  \n\n\n\nInstructor Bio\n\n\nDan Perunko \nDan Perunko is cofounder of Balance Point Home Performance Company. In 2006\, along with Gavin Healy\, Dan started a successful company providing full service home performance analysis\, retrofits\, consultations\, and trainings. Dan works on new and existing construction designs and hands on installations of enclosures\, mechanical\, plumbing\, and indoor air quality components based on tested performance outcomes. Dan especially enjoys improving existing homes to provide homeowners with levels of comfort and energy consumption that they have not believed possible. Dan is a professional trainer who designs and delivers full and multi day courses for California’s utility companies (energy training centers) and ACI national and regional conferences. Dan brings his experience from construction\, design and building analysis\, to make his class materials relevant\, useful and understandable regardless of the attendees’ level of experience. \n\n\n\n\n\n\nAgenda\n\n\nAgenda: \n\nIntroduction and safety message\n\nDuct Leakage \n\nHow much leakage is the right amount\nAir quality consequence\nEnergy usage consequence\nHow tight can a duct system be\nIndustry performance\, your chance to shine\nHow to seal effectively\nHow to motivate the crew\n\nDuct Conduction \n\nHow much energy do ducts lose through conduction?\nDuct location and insulation strategies\nSimulating ducts in conditioned space\nUsing multiple small footprint duct systems to reduce conduction losses\n\nSystem Airflow \n\nLow air flow volume effects duct conduction losses\n\nSystem Capacity \n\nSystem Capacity targets for CA systems\nTypical System Capacities CA systems\nSystem Capacity and duct leakage\nSystem Capacity and duct conduction\nSystem Capacity drivers that impact poor system airflow\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nObjectives\n\n\nThe objective of this course is that at the conclusion\, participants will be able to: \n\nDescribe typical duct leakage in CA systems\nRecognize the importance of performance targets for low leakage duct systems\nSummarize the typical system capacity losses resulting from duct conduction\nOutline four key strategies for reducing duct conduction losses\nDetail the mechanism that cause energy loss in low airflow systems\nCompare typical equipment sizing versus performance equipment sizing\nReview the energy losses resulting from typical oversized system capacities\n\nREGISTER HERE \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n|

SUMMARY:Virtual - NEEA Low-Load Efficient Heat Pump Research
DESCRIPTION:NEEA Low-Load Efficient Heat Pump Research\nEvent details\n\n\n\n2/20/2024\, 10:30 AM – 2/20/2024\, 11:00 AM\nTime zone: (UTC-08:00) Pacific Time (US & Canada)\n\n\nMicrosoft Teams meeting\n\n\nModeling and lab testing revealed that some heat pumps work significantly better under part-load (low-load) conditions\, resulting in significant annual energy savings with little to no differentiation in retail price.  NEEA contracted with Cadeo Group and Optimized Thermal Systems to better understand why and what equipment hardware or design changes are needed to achieve top quartile low-load efficiency. \n  \nThe project involved two parts: 1) explore why. \n\n\nSpeakers\n\nChristopher Dymond\, NEEA\n\n\n\nCory Luker\, Cadeo Group\n\n\n\n\nCLICK HERE TO REGISTER

SUMMARY:Virtual Conference - HVAC/R Training Symposium
DESCRIPTION:The HVACR Training Symposium is an annual trade event that has been held at Kalos Services in Clermont\, FL\, since 2020. Many of the industry’s finest minds come together to lead educational sessions about a wide range of applicable HVAC/R topics\, from fundamentals to advanced design and diagnostics. \nWe’ve consistently welcomed speakers like Jim Bergmann\, Bill Spohn\, Craig Migliaccio\, Alex Meaney\, Ed Janowiak\, and many more industry leaders. Many sponsors also come out to support the event\, show off their game-changing products\, and even donate fancy tools for use in our giveaways. \nThe symposium lasts 3 days\, from Thursday to Saturday. \nSessions are either 50 or 80 minutes in length and run from 8 AM to 5 PM with a one-hour lunch break on Thursday and Friday. \nSessions end a bit earlier on Saturday to allow plenty of time for an afterparty at a local restaurant. \nOur facility can only hold about 200 in-person attendees\, but we also offer a virtual ticket that offers access to all of the training sessions for several months after the symposium ends. \nIn-person ticket sales typically sell out well in advance of the symposium\, but virtual ticket sales are unlimited and will be available before\, during\, and after the symposium. Even though the in-person experience offers the benefits of networking opportunities and free food\, the virtual ticket is a high-value offering that can also earn you up to 16 NATE CEUs and provide a wealth of useful training classes for people at all stages of their HVAC/R careers. \nClick here to Register
